As registration for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) set to kick off nationwide, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede has cautioned proprietors of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres against fraudulent activities, including fleecing of unsuspecting candidates.
The Registrar gave the charge at a virtual meeting with the proprietors of accredited CBT centres where he told them to consider their engagement with the Board as a national assignment.
The warning was contained in JAMB’s weekly bulletin released to reporters on Monday, morning in Abuja.
According to the Registrar, JAMB has zero tolerance for corrupt practices, hence will continue to partner with only reliable CBT centres, noting that some centres were sanctioned on account of the various infractions committed during the 2021exercise.
He noted that the Board would not hesitate to do the same should any of them be found wanting.
“I urge you to play your roles responsibly. We would continue to identify bad eggs among you and apply
necessary sanctions as the exercise is too important to the nation to be jeopardised by the interests of a few fraudulent individuals,” he told the participants virtually.
Prof. Oloyede warned against unwholesome behaviours like extortion, overnight registration, movement of routers to other locations other than the approved centres, attending to candidates by proxy, among others.
The Registrar extolled the virtues of the cashless regime in this year’s UTME registration exercise, stating that the idea was conceived to prevent warehousing of candidates, extortion and other exploitative tendencies of some fraudulent operators of CBT centres.
To ascertain the level of preparedness of the centres for the upcoming UTME, the Registrar said there would be an Autobot test before the commencement of registration in the over 600 CBT centres, insisting that all centres must be on approved IP addresses, in addition to complying with all other regulations as laid down by the Board.
