The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB Cut Off Mark for 2024 and Admission Age Limit was announced at the policy meeting on Thursday July 18, 2024.

The National Minimum Tolerable UTME Score (NTMUS), popularly known as the cut-off mark, for 2024 admission into tertiary institutions was arrived at on Thursday during the 2024 annual policy meeting on admissions, which was held at the Body Benchers, Headquarters, Abuja.

At this meeting, All the Heads of higher institutions of learning, on Thursday, pegged the minimum benchmark for admissions for tertiary institutions at 140 for Universities, 100 for Polytechnics and colleges of education.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, who announced the cutoff marks, explained that individual institutions were at liberty to raise their minimum benchmark approved at the policy meeting but could not go below what was approved for various institutions.

About The Minimum Admission Age Limit

the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, during the policy meeting earlier announced a ban on admissions for candidates under the age of 18 years. However, stakeholders at the meeting protested this decision.

The stakeholders, who turned out in their numbers from across tertiary institutions in the country, voiced resistance which turned the session into a rowdy one.

The minister, who was unable to proceed with his address as a result of the uproar, had asked “Are we together?” to which the stakeholders responded with a resounding “No!”

It took the intervention of the JAMB Registrar to restore order to the policy meeting.

However, after consultations with other stakeholders, Oloyede said, “At the time they (candidates) were taking the examinations, they were not aware. So if we want to enforce it then it should be for subsequent years.”

But the minister later accepted the suggestions of the stakeholders that those from 16 years and above should be eligible for this year’s admission while the law would apply from next year.

So inconclusion, the ban on underage admission would commence by 2025. Anyone less that 18 years will not be given admission as from next academic year – 2025.
